Embrace Serenity Through Yoga

  • I’m more aware of visual impairment and blindness due to my own limitations. I give more descriptive cues than traditional yoga instructors to ensure a seamless flow that’s easy to follow auditorily.

  • Once you’ve booked an appointment with me, it will be conducted via Zoom. I will send the link about an hour beforehand. Due to how new this experience is, however, this might change.

  • The most important things are alignment and listening to your body. If a pose doesn’t feel comfortable to you, take it slow and easy. Don’t over-extend anything, especially your limbs. Always back out of something that doesn’t feel right in your body, even if you do have an instructor present. If you have trouble balancing, avoid poses that require only one foot on the floor. Always consult your doctor before practicing yoga.

  • No, but I highly recommend them. They’re fantastic for making modifications and help greatly with alignment. If you don’t have the funds or desire for them then they’re not necessary. It’s all about what will help you in your yoga journey.

  • Blocks are incredibly helpful for both alignment and to modify a pose until you can get into it safely/correctly on your own. If you have access to a wall, that can also be useful. A bolster is great for a more relaxing version of yoga like a restorative practice. A strap is useful for binds and bends where reaching your toes or fingers isn’t in your practice. A chair can also really assist those with limited mobility, but as of now, I’m not trained in chair yoga. These are just some ideas. You don’t absolutely need props to begin your yoga journey, they’re simply there to help.

  • As my yoga teacher says, “yoga is the science of healthy living.” For some, it’s just a great way to physically take care of their body. For others, it’s that and a spiritual journey. Connecting with your mat and breath can be a very powerful experience. For a lot of people, it’s transformative; teaching yourself self-care, to love yourself, to be strong in body and mind, and those things translate off the mat as well as on it. It’s a way to get connected to your body in a way that few other types of movement allow. And, it can be extremely accessible, but not just for the blind or visually impaired. Yoga can help improve strength, flexibility, stamina, self-awareness, and so much more. It is, in essence, whatever you make it.
